June was an amazing month for me, 100% back into Keto and 16lbs of excess weight just disappeared, now I know that in large part this was down to all the amazing foods I’ve been eating but also supported by the fact I have cycled every day in June.

I know from prior experience with Keto that I don’t need to workout every day but I wanted to, so I did. Keto always makes me feel so energetic when I add in exercise too and this is one of the aspects that many people miss.

This is the first time I have ever cycled EVERY day in a month, I particularly wanted to train my body to keep going every day, even when it doesn’t want to, because that’s what I will need to do on the ocean and strangely it was much easier than I thought it would be.

Part of the reason for this is that cycling is a very forgiving sport, it’s much easier to cycle every day than it is to run every day, the body copes with it so much better.  I’ll be frank here, the butt cheeks did take a few days to get used to it but interestingly they got used to it far more quickly than I imagined.

So I decided to cycle every day, even if it was just for 5 miles a day, some of the rules I set myself were, I had to commit, whatever the weather to doing it every day.  The reality was I started with 10 miles a day and soon built that to 15-20 miles per day.  Speed was not important, but getting out there and doing it was the main goal.  Pushing through any perceived tiredness and going for it anyway.

Some of the greatest joys of cycling every day were:
1. Having a goal to follow – I love a 30 day goal, this is good for us mentally and physically, whatever the goal. Something to focus on every day and push myself just out of my comfort zone.
2. Keto gives me such sustained energy - my body was excited to go out, ok so a few days yes I felt quite tired, but once I’d been out I always felt energised again, I love this feeling.
3. Being so at one with nature all around me – it is a magical time of year to be out at all times of the day, the mornings and evenings are super light, I saw so many beautiful sunrises, I saw dozens of deer, hare, rabbit and birds and so many beautiful flowers are in our hedgerows.

I actually averaged just over 20 miles per day.  I completed 604 miles, climbed 13,879 ft of hills, set 51 personal records (according to Strava, anyway) and my longest ride was 42 miles where I enjoyed a café stop in Broadway for a cuppa, a perfect spot to enjoy a Fatt Vanilla and Almond cookie, what a perfect way to spend a Sunday morning.

Now, for July it’s all about the ocean row boat, and I’m starting off with a 23 mile row from Whitby down to Scarborough, a perfect way to see our coastline and do some ‘proper’ ocean rowing in some big seas, just what I need.

Until next time
