Client Spotlight - Jo H

Even after doing what we do for many, many years, we still love to hear about our clients success!! Recently, we reached out to some of our clients and asked if they would be happy to share their story in a blog. Here is the first of our client spotlights written by the lovely Jo H. We will let her tell you her story!

Tell us a bit about yourself
"I’m Jo, I’m now almost 51 years old and I live in Buckinghamshire. I live a fairly active outdoorsy lifestyle. My daughter has a horse which keeps us busy, plus, until recently we had a rescue dog called Bear who we enjoyed taking out on long walks across the beautiful Chilterns countryside. Sadly, we lost him just before Christmas but we are still trying to get out and about as much as possible. I also love Pilates, which I do on a reformer at least twice a week."

Why did you feel you needed to lose weight?
"I have been overweight for many years. It wasn’t enough to be worried about, but I was definitely a stone and a half over my ideal weight. I used to always joke that my pregnancy weight took nine months to put on and has taken almost 17 years to lose!

During lockdown, I put on quite a bit more weight. Life became much more sedentary and we discovered the joy of baking, so always had way too many cakes in the house. I didn’t realise I was piling on the pounds but my weight crept up and up. I kept making excuses and thinking I’d do something about it after lockdown was over, but then that seemed to drag on and the world was a pretty unsettled place, so I found myself turning to food for comfort.

The need to lose weight was definitely in the back of my mind, I kept telling myself that I would start to eat healthily – I tried shakes and calorie counting and low-fat diets but every time I seemed to fail and be right back where I started.

The real drive for change came because I was approaching my 50th birthday and I just couldn’t bear the thought of being fat and fifty! In fact, I turned 49 and said I would make a change, but then each month came and went until 23 January, 2022. I had exactly one month until I turned 50 and felt it was now or never."

How did you hear about Natural Ketosis?
"A friend of mine at Pilates told me about Natural Ketosis – she, a bit like me, had put on weight and decided she needed to shift it but had tried so many things on her own that never seemed to work. She found Natural Ketosis, ordered a plan and promptly lost just under a stone in two weeks! She was raving about it and I thought it sounded like something I could do. I read up about it, spoke to Amanda via the chat button on the website, asked a load of questions and then decided to go for it."

Tell us about your Natural Ketosis journey
"I initially ordered a 14-day Kickstarter plan just to see if I was going to like it. It was so exciting picking the meals and waiting for it to be delivered. Once it arrived, I read the plan, bought in all my extra ingredients and was ready to go. It was amazing. For the first time ever, I was eating food I really liked, feeling full and losing weight. The weight was dropping off – I lost a stone in that first two weeks. I felt so good. I felt energised. I then ordered a 28-day plan and lost another stone before ordering a final 28-day plan, during which I lost another half a stone. I was two and a half stone down, looking and feeling great and all my friends were noticing the difference. After that, I ordered in some soups and meals which I keep in my cupboard for the days that I need something quick and easy, but otherwise, I’m now on my own and have lost another half a stone, making three stone in total… and the best bit, I have kept the weight off."

What else did you notice in those first few weeks?
"As a woman of a certain age, I had various symptoms that I put down to the approaching menopause. I had watched Davina McCall’s programme and had seen the list of symptoms and seemed to be suffering with at least 50% of them! Before I started the Natural Ketosis programme, I had terrible heartburn – I had Gaviscon tablets everywhere and was popping them at least five times a day. I also had joint pain and itchy skin. It was getting so bad that I was about to make an appointment at the GP to go on HRT. Then I started the Natural Ketosis plan, and I am not exaggerating when I say that those symptoms stopped almost immediately and I have never suffered from them again. Whether it was cutting out the sugar in my diet or increasing the amount of fat I ate, I don’t know, but I was amazed at the difference in such a short time."

What are your Keto plans for the future?
"I can’t imagine not eating in a Keto style. It really suits me and I have now worked out a way to make it fit easily with my family life.

I am going to carry on eating like this for as long as it makes me feel healthy. I think I probably eat slightly less fat now and have developed my own hybrid style, but I am still loving it and still feeling great."

Any tips for other Natural Ketosis clients?
"Check out the recipes provided on the dashboard, I have made lots of the meals and desserts that are listed on there. I also search the internet and social media for Keto meal ideas.

I buy Inulin in bulk and use this as the sweetener for most of my baking. I make a huge batch of Keto Granola every couple of weeks and use this as my go-to breakfast and snack. I also always keep sliced chicken breast, almonds, cheese and olives at home. I use these as a quick snack instead of reaching for crisps.

Iceberg lettuce is my best friend – it is a replacement wrap if we are having Mexican, it’s my replacement burger bun and also replaces sandwich bread. I also use quite a lot of mayonnaise, which I never used to eat before. 

Double cream is also my go-to if everyone else in the family is having dessert. You don’t need much of it to feel full – I either whisk it up and just eat it out of a bowl, or put some in a cup of decaf coffee. It makes me feel like I haven’t missed out."

Anything you would like to add?
"I just want to say thank you to Natural Ketosis for getting me back on track. Nothing feels as good as trying on a pair of jeans that are two sizes smaller than you used to wear and having no muffin-top hanging over the waistband.

I feel so much more positive about myself and have become much more sociable because of it.

I don’t think it is too over the top to say you have changed my life.
