20g vs. 50g carbs - which is right for your goals?

Many people are confused about the level of carbs they need to consume for their goal but that is why we are here to help and make it easy for you.

Of course, every person is different but, as a general rule of thumb, if you have more than 1 stone (6.3kg) to lose, we recommend the Keto Kickstart Plan (under 50g per day) and if you have less than 1 stone to lose, we recommend the Super Keto Plan (under 20g carbs per day.)

This can seem quite backwards to some people as, surely the lower the carb amount, the better the results. This is not quite right. Let me breakdown why we recommend the plans the way we do.

The first important thing to mention is that any weight loss plan/diet is a progressive process. When you first start on Keto, the dramatic change to less than 50g carbs is a big shock to your body which helps to boost weight loss and the effectiveness.

When you have more than 1 stone to lose you have a higher body fat % which is available to be burned so your body will actually react better to a slightly higher amount of carbs as this will still be a huge change to the average diet.

Over time, the body becomes accustomed to what is happening and the new way of eating and changes to accommodate this. This is when weight loss plateaus and stops. This happens with all diets and a lot of people give up at this point as they think it is no longer working when all you need to do is make a few tweaks to get things going again. At this point, we would recommend moving to a plan which is slightly more restrictive in carbs which can help to boost weight loss again as it switches things up and gets the body guessing again.

As you lose weight and get closer to your goal or if you start out with less than 1 stone to lose, you will have less body fat % available to be burned for energy so this is why the Super Keto plan is recommended for a smaller weight loss goal. Things need to be slightly more restrictive to get the results with a smaller weight loss target.

As I mentioned, everyone is different and whilst this will work for 90% of people, some others may need something slightly different. We are here to help so if you would like to discuss your goals and options, please get in touch and we can give you much more personalised advice.
